چکیده

This work presents a self-contained continuum formulation for coupled chemical, mechanical, and thermal contact interactions. The is very general and, hence, admits arbitrary geometry, deformation, material behavior. All model equations are derived rigorously from the balance laws of mass, momentum, energy, entropy in framework irreversible thermodynamics, thus exposing all coupling present field constitutive relations. In process, conjugated kinematic kinetic variables thermal, chemical identified, analogies between highlighted. Particular focus placed on thermodynamics bonding distinguishing exothermic endothermic reactions. Distinction also made long-range, non-touching surface interactions short-range, touching contact. For relations, examples proposed discussed comprehensively with particular their coupling. Finally, three analytical test cases presented that illustrate thermo-chemo-mechanical useful verifying computational models. Although main novelty extension existing formulations to contact, sheds new light thermo-mechanical because it consistently basic principles using only few assumptions.

Contact instability in adhesion and debonding of thin elastic films.

Based on experiments and 3D simulations, we show that a soft elastic film during adhesion and debonding from a rigid flat surface undergoes morphological transitions to pillars, labyrinths, and cavities, all of which have the same lateral pattern length scale, lambda close to lambda/H approximately 3 for thick films, H > 1 microm . The linear stability analysis and experiments show a new thin f...

Continuum contact models for coupled adhesion and friction

We develop two new continuum contact models for coupled adhesion and friction, and discuss them in the context of existing models proposed in the literature. Our new models are able to describe sliding friction even under tensile normal forces, which seems reasonable for certain adhesion mechanisms. In contrast, existing continuum models for combined adhesion and friction typically include slid...

A modeling framework for contact, adhesion and mechano-transduction between excitable deformable cells

Cardiac myocytes are the fundamental cells composing the heart muscle. The propagation of electric signals and chemical quantities through them is responsible for their nonlinear contraction and dilatation. In this study, a theoretical model and a finite element formulation are proposed for the simulation of adhesive contact interactions between myocytes across the so-called gap junctions. A mu...

Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamical Framework for Rate- and State-Dependent Friction

Rateand state-dependent friction laws for velocity-step and healing are analysed from a thermodynamic point of view. Assuming a logarithmic deviation from steady-state, a unification of the classical Dieterich and Ruina models of rock friction is proposed.

Thermodynamical Description of Running Discontinuities: Application to Friction and Wear

The friction and wear phenomena appear due to contact and relative motion between two solids. The evolution of contact conditions depends on loading conditions and mechanical behaviours. The wear phenomena are essentially characterized by a matter loss. Wear and friction are in interaction due to the fact that particles are detached from the solids. A complex medium appears as an interface havi...
